Remnants
Marc Wilson | two&two
112pp softbound book

Photographer Marc Wilson walked high in the mountains of the Trentino-Alto Adige region of northern Italy, making photographs for his photobook: Remnants. Marc’s images capture the rugged beauty of the first world war forts which are now merging naturally with the environment they sit within.

As with each collaboration with Marc, it is an attention to detail which sets his books apart. He prefers not to have an image on the cover, so the eye is attracted not by photography but by strong typography or a striking colour. The resulting covers have a clarity and are intriguing; encouraging you to open and explore further to discover his work.

The paper is always high-quality, the binding interesting. On Remnants, a muted colour palette is derived from this rugged landscape and its man-made structures: a dark green and grey paper stock; green and black text, maps and illustrations.

Marc worked in collaboration with Italian architect and researcher Marco Ferrari. Jane Randfield produced pencil sketches of three of the forts. Taylor Brothers in Bristol printed the books.
