SA Ferrarini
Brand identity

This is work-in-progress on brand and packaging for Matteo Bocchialini and his exciting new range of natural products from Società Agricola Ferrarini.

Matteo is based in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, considered to be one of the richest areas with regard to its gastronomic and wine-making traditions and renowned for Parmigiano Reggiano.

He found Bath-based illustrator and printmaker Jane Randfield on Instagram, had fallen for the traditional art of wood engraving and her work in particular, and is building a library of Jane’s engravings based on both her existing work and new, product/place inspired images. The commissioned engravings are rooted in that particular landscape and the artisans who farm the land to create such wonderful produce.

Matteo called for the company name and associated typography to have a ‘tone of elegance’ and to avoid being ‘overly modern’; a concept of ‘non-industrial refinement’. Ferrarini is the family name and Agricola is a Latin word that broadly means ‘farmer’ and a name for any company that operates specifically in agriculture.

The typeface chosen combines Renaissance elegance with contemporary ideas and detailing. It’s understated but crucially when setting the name FERRARINI, the starting point was to find a graceful and pleasing ‘R’.

Further images will be shared as the products develop.
